Lap Hook Scissors

Description

Lap hook scissors are a specialized surgical tool used in laparoscopic surgeries, commonly known as minimally invasive surgery.

• Purpose: Designed to grab and cut tissue during laparoscopic surgery.
  The hooked tip helps surgeons to reach around and grip tissue before to cutting, preventing it from sliding out of the scissors’ grasp. This is especially useful in the female pelvis, where manipulating tissue may be difficult.
• Mechanism: Lap hook scissors are usually single-action tools. This means they shut with a single squeeze of the handle, resulting in greater force than double-action scissors, which need repeated squeezing. This additional power is important for cutting through harder tissues.
• Versatility: While usually employed in gynecological laparoscopy, lap hook scissors are also utilized in other operations such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) to cut the cystic duct arterial and sutures.
• Size: Lap hook scissors are intended for laparoscopic surgery and have a diameter of around 5mm to fit through the tiny incisions created in the belly.
